For those of you who are here living the dream at VBC, here is some info on how to find us...

Thanks for your interest in the Victory Base Council! We are a group of volunteers who work together and “do our best” to support local Iraqi scouting. We are a “sibling council” to the Green Zone Council, which has been helping Iraqi scouting in the IZ since 2004. Given the difficulties of anyone in the Victory Base Complex participating in their events over there, and the fact that we have a local population of Iraqi youth, a local school, and local Iraqi units on Victory Base to partner with, it just made sense to duplicate the GZC model over here.

For Victory Base Council, we work through an existing framework of local contacts facilitated by the VBC Chaplain’s office. We have a weekly dinner meeting where we plan and coordinate, and we do 4-8 other events per month with Iraqi leaders and children who live around BIAP. Often our events are a blend of community service along with fun scoutcraft & activities for the kids, as we move slowly towards a functioning scout troop model. We need volunteers of ALL KINDS, everyone has something to contribute, even if it is just a vehicle once per year, or one event per year where some special skill you have would be useful. Some of our best volunteers NEVER attended a troop meeting, but did tons of critical work for the council here on Victory. MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK!

If you want to come to a council meeting to check us out first, the calendar may have some details. We meet on Tuesday nights, 1800 (no BUA) in the VICTORY CHAPEL

Troop meetings are generally held on Saturdays, leaving from the Guard Tower in the Al-Faw palace parking lot. 1400 in the cooler months, and 1600 in the warmer months. DETAILS FOR EVERY EVENT ARE PUT OUT IN ADVANCE ON THE EMAIL LIST BY THE TRIP LEADER FOR THAT EVENT.
